The Rev'd Douglas J. King, Rector

Father King was born and reared in Akron, Ohio. While in High School he earned three Varsity letters in Football, received a National Science Foundation award permitting him to study advanced Probability Theory and Computer Programming and graduated as Valedictorian.

He graduated from the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio with a BS in Accounting. That same year he was licensed as a CPA and pursued graduate studies in Accounting and Tax Law.

Father King’s management career spanned more than twenty-five years. His duties included traditional audit and tax roles in public accounting, financial consulting to large and small businesses, SEC reporting for publicly traded corporations, and evaluation of companies for mergers and acquisitions. He has held various titles, including Controller, VP Finance and Chief Financial Officer, and President. He has been involved with several entrepreneurial ventures.

Responding to the “call” to ministry of the Lord God, Father King enrolled at Dallas Theological Seminary and pursued studies in Systematic and Historical Theology. There he earned the Master of Theology graduating Magna Cum Laude. While in Seminary Father King spent three months in Kenya, East Africa on a Foreign Missions ministry. His teaching and writing skills were recognized by the African churches, Seminary Professors, and Internship supervisors alike. Also while in Seminary he taught an adult class at a prominent Dallas Anglican parish, lead a Bible Study group at Texas Instruments and a home Bible Study group.

Father King was ordained to the Order of Deacons in the Reformed Episcopal Church and called to serve The Church of the Epiphany in Cleveland, Ohio. He was ordained to the Priesthood at St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Shoreline, Washington, the pro-Cathedral of the (now) Diocese of the West (APA). Under Dean King’s leadership St. Barnabas enjoyed much growth and offered an active Children’s Sunday School program and an adult education program. St. Barnabas became a center of ministry to Nigerian immigrants living in the Seattle area.

Father King has presented educational seminars at the National Convention of the United Episcopal Church of North America . His seminars included “Worship The Lord in the Beauty of Holiness: A Seminar Presenting a History, Theology and Effect of the Daily Office of Morning Prayer,” “The Fragrance of the Knowledge of Christ: A Seminar Presenting a Theology of Evangelism,” “Eucharist: A Theology of The Holy Communion” and “The Church.” Father King presented the educational seminar at the Convocation of the Missionary District of the West of the APA. He was a preacher at the inaugural National Synod of the Anglican Province of America. Father King served as Secretary to the House of Clergy for the Anglican Province of America, on the Board of Examining Chaplains and the Council of Advice for the Diocese of the West of the APA. Presently he serves on the Ecumenical Committee and the Provincial Council of the Anglican Province of America.

When Bishop Grundorf designated Central Florida as a "deanery" in April of 2006, Fr. King was appointed as the Dean of Central Florida.

The Rev'd Canon James R. Daughtry, Assisting Priest

Father Daughtry, Assistant to the Rector, is a native of New Mexico and a graduate of the New Mexico Military Institute. He attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida and received the Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Following a tour as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, he attended the General Theological Seminary (ECUSA), graduating in 1960. He was ordained Deacon in June of that year and as Priest in December.

Fr. Daughtry served a curacy at St. Philip’s Church, Coral Gables, Florida before becoming Vicar of the Chapel of the Resurrection, a new mission in Tucson, Arizona. After eleven years in that position he was called to be Rector of St. Paul’s Church on K Street, Washington, DC.

He was honored in 1984 by Bishop John Benjamin Arthur, Bishop of the Diocese of Kumasi, Ghana, who appointed him Honorary Canon of the Cathedral of St. Cyprian the Martyr in Kumasi. After Bishop Arthur’s death, Fr. Daughtry was formally installed to the canonry by the Most Rev’d George Brown, Archbishop of the Province of West Africa.

After fifteen years as Rector of St. Paul’s K Street, he retired to Santa Fe, New Mexico where he assisted at the Church of the Holy Faith and later at St. Mary’s Church in Albuquerque. When he moved to Suntree in Melbourne, he was included in the life of St. Paul’s Anglican Church and became Assistant to the Rector. In the diocese, he serves on the Ecumenical Committee and as chairman of the Board of Examining Chaplains.

The Rev'd Richard Blyth, Assisting Priest

Fr. Blyth was born, reared, and educated in Johannesburg, South Africa. After working as a banker for four years, he studied theology and prepared for ordination at St. Paul’s Theological College in Grahamstown, S.A., graduating with an LTh degree.

Ordained to the priesthood by the Archbishop of Central Africa in 1961, he served two curacies and a rectorship in the Diocese of Johannesburg.

In 1968 he moved to the Diocese of Quebec, Canada. After serving at a remote mission on the Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, he was Rector of a large urban parish in Quebec City for twenty years. For the last ten years of his ministry in Quebec, he served in several capacities: Executive Assistant to the Bishop of Quebec, Archdeacon of Quebec, Treasurer of the Diocese, and Examining Chaplain to the Bishop.

Fr. Blyth has been a single parent since 1984, when he adopted his son Adam, then 5 years of age. Since his retirement in the year 2000, he and Adam have resided in Cocoa Beach.
